Improvements relating to brake-shoes of vehicle brake mechanism

Blocks and shoes acting on drums; shoes.-An internal expanding shoe brake according to the parent Specification is modified by the provision of a fixed anchorage for one shoe and one or more movable anchorages for one or more other shoes, each anchorage being between the ends of an adjacent shoe. Preferably, a movable anchorage is in the form of a connection between two shoes, so that the shoe first applied to the drum moves the anchorage towards the drum. In a brake comprising three shoes, the two end shoes 12, 16, Fig. 1, acted on by a cam 22 are forked to straddle the ends of the intermediate shoe 14 which is pivoted on a fixed anchorage 28 secured to the backing plate and passing through relatively large openings in the shoe 12. The shoes 12, 16 area connected to the shoe 14 by pivot pins 18, 34 having enlarged heads slidably engaging the backing plate. The cam 22 is formed at its edges with a flange confining the end of the shoes 12, 16. In a modification, the fixed anchorage engages the forked end of the shoe 12 and passes through a relatively large opening in the shoe 14. In a brake for heavy duty, Fig. 4. the shoes are stampings and the fixed anchorage engaging the end of the shoe 14 comprises a pivot pin 52 passing through an anchor arm 50 and held in place by the webs of the shoe 12.
