Hydrogen peroxide, concentrating and distilling.-Hydrogen peroxide solution is concentrated by atomizing it into a chamber or passing it down the inner surfaces of tubes or down a tower containing superposed domes or non-catalytic fillers such as balls of glass or porcelain in contact with a stream of air, oxygen, or other gases which do not react with the solution. The tubes or the tower are heated externally or by internal coils to about 70‹ F. or the stream of air &c. is heated to about 65‹ C. The operation is carried out under ordinary increased or reduced pressure. The air &c. before use may be freed from dust and moisture, and after use may be treated to remove moisture and used again. The solution may be raised to a concentration of about 50 per cent. If the treatment be continued, hydrogen peroxide vapours are evolved and by condensation, hydrogen peroxide solution free from inorganic constituents is obtained. This distillation may be carried out in a second tower or in the lower part of a single tower, a part of the current of air &c. being withdrawn at an intermediate position in the tower. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes also that the operation may be carried out by the use of reduced pressure only and that the gases may be replaced by vapours. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
