Clutches, free-wheel; facilitating changing speed; gearing for stopping and starting machinery.-Relates to overrunning clutches for use on motor-vehicles, particularly as described in Specification 261,486, and provides means for facilitating changing speed and for preventing the vehicle from running backwards downhill. The coupling-device is disposed between the gear box and driven axle, and comprises a forward unidirectional clutch combined with a brake for retarding the change-speed gear-wheels, the non- revoluble brake-element being adapted frictionally to engage the driving-member of the coupling- device or a part fixed to rotate therewith. The mechanism described is identical with that described in Specifications 287,947 and 288,094 with reference to the drawing accompanying the first Provisional Specifications thereof.
