Sieves and screens, forms and construction of :-Screening surfaces which may form the walls of disintegrating apparatus such as tube, drum or ball mills consist of a number of separate bars d, Figs. 1, 3, spaced to provide continuous slits of the required width and supported radially at the outer shell and central boss of the apparatus. In the arrangement shown the screen forms a partition between the chambers a, b of a drum mill. The bars a.re reduced in width at their middle portions to provide the sifting slits c when placed together, and may be arranged radially or tangentially and perpendicular or inclined to the axis of the drum. Preferably the edges are bevelled as shown in Fig. 3 to provide flaring slits, and strengthening ribs i may be formed on the bars. The outer ends of the bars are secured by rings g and the inner ends are connected to a centre piece f in any suitable manner.
