Improvements in the manufacture of veneered mouldings for interior wall decorating purposes

Mouldings; panelled work.- The process described in Specification 278,194 of making wood veneered mouldings by applying the veneer to a cork composition backing under heat in a press is modified so that mouldings may be produced of an ornamental shape in cross-section, such as that shown in Fig. 2. A number of strips may be formed in parallel lengths in one sheet by using a multiple die, the sheet being afterwards severed to form separate strips of moulding. To allow the veneer to " gather up " when the grooves between the parallel strips are of some depth, a sheet of paper may be interposed between the die and the sheet of veneer. The backing may be pre-shaped by subjecting it to the pressure of the hot die before the veneer is applied.
