[Class 25.] An automatic check-draught regulator for admitting air to a furnace chimney or flue comprises a pivoted damper consisting of two unequal wings d, e, the smaller of which opens outwardly, and has attached one or two slotted brackets f for adjustably supporting a weight i. Adjustment along the slot of the bolt f1 which supports the weight i determines the draught at which the damper commences to open, and the slot is so designed that full opening of the damper is produced when the draught exceeds that for which the weight i is adjusted by a pre-determined constant amount. The weight of the brackets f is counterbalanced by similar symmetrically arranged brackets f3 on the inner face of the larger wing d. In the construction shown a pin g limits the opening movement of the damper, and the top member of the damper frame a is attached to an angle iron h projecting into the opening in which the damper is mounted, to increase the opening produced by the movement of the damper. Fig. 3 shows the application of the apparatus to a furnace flue in which an induced draught is produced by a fan B, the damper being provided in front of the fan, either in the side wall of the flue at K1 or in a superstructure K.
