351,563. Applying tape to sheet materials. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd. and HAZELTON, G., Union Works, Belgrave Road, Leicester. March 29, 1930, No. 10047. [Class 73.] In a machine for taping a seam ridge projecting from a concave surface of a shoe upper, the ridge passes between portions of a guiding device which may render it ready to be operated on by pressing and taping means. As applied to the machine described in Specification 330,730, [Class 73, Labels &c.], for rubbing and taping the back seam of an upper, the feed roll 1 is shrouded by a cover 3 formed with a groove 4 along which the adhesive tape 5 passes. On one side of the cover is a wing 7 and on the other side a wing 8, both wings being springy and the latter adjustable away from the first to provide a slot 17 of variable width to guide the seam ridge. The wing 8 is carried by a springy arm 9 secured to the cover-plate 11 at 10 and biased inwardly, adjusting means comprising a thumb-screw 15 having a pin engaging a slot in a sleeve screwing into a boss in the plate 11. The corners 18 are rounded to plough up the margins of the material, and the parallel sides of the gap guide the ridge, in a straight line, to the tape and rubbing tool 2.
