[Class 100 (ii).] A device for feeding used stereotype plates into the melting pot of a stereotype-casting machine comprises intermittently fed endless chains so arranged that the plates can be placed thereon by hand at a height convenient for handling, and are raised by the automatic motion of the chains to the height necessary for dropping them into the melting pot. A chain fast at one end to the mould shell d passes over a chain-wheel and is attached at its other end to a counterweight. The chain-wheel is connected through gears h, i and a ratchet clutch k to gearing l, m, which drives two pairs of vertical endless chains p. Each pair of chains is provided with cross-bars, on which the stereotype plates tare placed. Each time that the mould opens, the chains are advanced a step, and the topmost plate is tilted by a roller u so that it slides down a way w into the melting pot. The frame of the device is hinged, so that it can be swung away from the furnace wall.
