[Class 81 (i).] In apparatus for steam volatilizing pharmaceutical or like substances, particularly for use in vapour baths, and comprising a boiler, mixing chamber, and superheater, these parts are superposed within a casing comprising a diffusing cone. The electrically heated boiler 1 carries a mixing chamber 4 and superheater 6. The plate 7 is drilled to carry vessels 8 containing substances to be volatilized over which steam, entering through holes 9, is deflected by baffles 10, 11. The vapours pass through a coil 12, heated to 250‹ C. or more by a resistance 13, and escape through a cone 18 in the top of a double-walled casing surrounding the vaporizer, the inner wall 15 of which is of insulating material such as asbestos and the outer wall 16 of vulcanized vegetable fibre or other non-metallic material. The whole may be carried on a frame 19 having legs 20.
