386,414. Brush stocks. WILDE, J. K., Ashlynne, Selkirk Avenue, Werneth, LEECH, I., 197, Abbey Hills Road, and PLATT BROS. & CO., Ltd., Hartford Works, all in Oldham. Dec. 11, 1931, No. 34351. [Class 19.] The one-piece wooden stock a of a cylindrical combing-machine brush is provided with metal bushes c having threaded extensions c1 to screw into its ends and be retained by the friction of the rough thread, which may additionally be notched or grooved, with or without securing pegs or screws. The brush is secured to a shaft b by set-screws e engaging grooves b1 and having their heads mainly sunk in recesses c2. Strengthening hoops d are applied to the stock ends, preferably by forcing them over a reduced part a2, the bushes c being large enough to bear against the hoops. Pegs f are preferably passed through the parts c1, a2, d, being prevented from escaping by the shaft b and by expanding their inner ends and contracting the holes in the hoops d over their outer ends. The bristles are inserted after attachment of the metal parts. Pegs or screws may alternatively be driven or screwed into the stock to bear against or enter holes in the bushes, and separate pegs &c. may be used to retain the hoops. The bushes may be flanged to embrace the stock ends, and these flanges may partly or wholly surround the hoops. The invention is applicable to stocks built up of two or more sectors, in which case the bristles may be inserted before or after assembly of the sectors.
