397,916. Stands or supports for -tractors ; winding and propelling gear; anchoring devices. MOXONS, Ltd., Whetstone, London, and SHEPHERD, J. N. K., Mymswood Cottage, Shepherd's Way, Potters Bar, Middlesex. March 3, 1932, No. 6440. [Classes 79 (i), 79 (ii), and 79 (iii).] A combined jacking and ground-anchor device for tractors comprises a frame 5 pivoted to the vehicle and adapted to be brought under the vehicle into a position, shown in broken lines, in which it anchors the vehicle and jacks the driving wheels 19 clear of the ground. The frame 5 comprises a pair of channel members pivoted on a rod 1 and connected near their lower ends by an angle bar 7 which forms a stop and prevents the members 5 sinking beyond the bar 7. Spade members 9 are fixed to the lower ends of the members 5. The device is particularly intended for use with mole-draining gear in which a mole plough is attached to a rope 28 wound on a drum 11 driven from the tractor driving gear. To anchor the tractor it is driven backwards until the spades 9 dig into the ground and stop further movement. The drum 11 is then driven so as to haul on the rope 28 and the tractor is drawn backwards until the members 5 are vertical and come against stops 10. The drum 11 is driven by double chains 15 from twin sprockets 16 on a normal kind of back axle 18 adapted or converted for use as a countershaft, this axle being mounted in brackets 27 on the frame 3. The road wheels 19 are mounted on a dead axle 23 adjustably mounted in brackets 25, and are normally driven by two pairs of chains 21 at each side of the tractor, these chains passing over sprockets 16, 22 on the countershaft. When the drum 11 is to be driven the outer chains are removed from the driving wheel sprockets and the drum shaft 12 is connected by chains 15 to the sprockets 16 so that the propeller shaft 17 now drives the road wheels and the drum 11. If desired, a clutch may be provided in the drive to the drum 11. Adjustable torque rods 26 are provided between the brackets 25 and the frame 3 or the brackets 27. The drum shaft 12 is adjustable for chain-tensioning purposes.
