[Class 83 (i).] Apparatus for mixing foundry sand or other granular materials comprises means for treating the material as it moves at, at least, two stations by rollers or roller-like members which effect a rubbing or scouring, a compressing, and a lifting and redepositing action respectively. In the form shown in Fig. 2 the material is fed down a central shoot 7 to a rotating plate 1 and is treated by a smooth roller 11 covered with rubber, and driven at a greater peripheral speed than the plate, to a rubbing action, and by a rotating, cage-like member 40, driven by contact with the plate, to a lifting and redepositing action. As shown in Fig. 5 the member 40 comprises parallel, inclined blades 401 mounted on a shaft 37 loosely carried in bearings 38 and driven by means of a rubber tyre 36. A heavy head 41 is provided to secure an effective drive. An intermediable compression roller, which may be divided, may be interposed between the stations occupied by the roller 11 and member 40, and fixed deflecting shares may be placed between the different stations. The roller 11 may be of hyperbolic shape to correspond with the natural angle of the surface of the material, which may also be fed past the treating stations on an endless band.
