[Class 107] The perimeter or periphery of a sectional grating or cover for manholes, gullies and the like is loosely engaged with a connecting member or members in such manner that the sections are free to adjust themselves individually upon a seating in the surrounding frame. The sections and the connecting members are interengaged by the provision of projecting and channelled or apertured parts. In the construction shown in Fig. 4, the grating sections 3, 4, 5 are provided with longitudinal channels 7 which loosely accommodate two connecting bars 6. These bars are loosely riveted at 8 to the end sections 3, 5, and are pivoted by pins 9 to the supporting frame. In modifications the bars may be channelled or apertured to receive longitudinal ribs formed on the grating sections. The sections 3b, 4b. 5b of the circular manhole cover shown in Fig. 5 are interconnected by a peripheral ring 61 which fits loosely within a circumferential channel 71.
