461,390. Hand trucks. BEAUFOUR, R. E. Feb. 24, 1936, No. 5529. Convention date, Feb. 25, 1935. [Class 108 (i)] [Also in Group XIV] An adjustable surgical bed comprising a frame 1, Fig. 3, and a mattress-supporting upper frame 10 is used in conjunction with a transporting chassis, shown in Figs. 8 and 9 by means of which the upper frame 10 may be lifted from the frame 1 and transported with the patient lying thereon. The frame 1, Fig. 3, is provided with castors 2 and movable feet 3, and with blocks 6 mounted to pivot on two horizontal axes at right angles. A lifting jack 7 is mounted in the centre of the frame, by means of which the mattress frame 10 can be tilted about either side edge or either end by appropriate manipulation of the blocks 6. The transporting chassis, Figs 8 and 9, comprises a U-shaped frame 24 with bracing members 26, mounted on three wheels 28, 30, and provided with three lifting jacks 34, 35, preferably hydraulic, which can be operated either together, singly or in any desired combination by means of mechanism such as a pump 36. The jacks are provided with swivelling heads adapted to engage sockets 40, Fig. 3 and pins 41, on the mattress supporting frame 10. The transporting chassis can thus be wheeled into position around the bed frame and the frame 10 engaged by the jacks, lifted off the frame 1, and inclined if desired. A frame 23, Fig. 14, carrying transverse straps upon which the patient may be lifted, is also provided, and normally engages guides 14 at the head of the frame 10. This frame 23 is also provided with sockets and pins which can be engaged by the heads of the jacks on the transporting chassis, so that it can be lifted as shown relatively to the mattress frame 10 ; or lifted and transported with the patient thereon.
