[Class 6 (iii)] [Also in Group XIII] A machine for cutting and removing moisture from grass or like crops comprises cutting means, a conveyer adapted to collect the cut grass and to feed it between a pair of endless belts, and rollers supporting the belts and arranged to exert pressure upon the grass. The grass is cut by an ordinary cutter 17 actuated by an internal combustion motor carried by a framework 3 and the cut crop is engaged by fingers or tines 5 mounted on an endless belt 4 these fingers drawing the crop up a plane 6 and depositing it on the upper stretch of a belt 7 guided and maintained taut by rollers 8 ... 13 that may be plain, ribbed or perforated. A second belt 14, passing over rollers 10, 15, 16, 17, bears against the major part of the upper run of the belt 7 and exerts pressure on the material being conveyed between the belts. The belts are made of material such that moisture pressed out of the crop is taken up thereby and pairs 30, 31, of co-operating rollers are provided to compress the belts to remove the absorbed water. The dried crop may be discharged into a receptable 28. Cam actuated hammers may be arranged to strike the belts to assist in removing the moisture from the grass. The rollers 9, 15, supporting the belts may be mounted on arms 34 sufficiently resilient to permit the rollers to move laterally relatively to each other. A rotary deflecting device 52 may be fitted below the end of the elevators to distribute the dry crop over the receptacle 28.
