[Class 7 (i)] [Also in Group XXVI] In a power plant, the working-fluid, preferably air, is heated in a coil 2 within a combustion chamber 1, enters and exhausts from a turbine 3, which drives a compressor 5 and a generator 4, and is exhausted at 6 into a heat-exchanger 7 wherein working-fluid compressed in the compressor 5 is pre-heated before entering the coil 2. A cooling system for the compressor and pipe 11 is fed by a pump 12. The plant is fully described in Specification 468,287. As a governing means, working fluid may be added to or withdrawn from the working cycle by means of storage containers 24, 241. A valve chest 10 with an inlet valve 101 and an outlet valve 102 is connected by a pipe 111 to the pipe 11 between the compressor and the exchanger 7. Fluctuations in the plant output are regulated by varying the density of the circulating air approximately in proportion to the instantaneous output of the turbine, the speed of the turbine and compressor remaining constant. The valves 101, 102, are adjusted automatically by a governor through the intermediary of an oil-control system 32 with a distributing piston 33. According to the position of the latter, oil under pressure is delivered either to the underside of the piston 103 or the piston 104, the valve 102 or 101 being opened accordingly. A valve 43 is connected with the oilcontrol system and controls the volume of air flowing to the heater 1. Where oil is used for fuel in the heater, the supply may also be controlled by the system 32. A throttle valve 40 may be regulated from the oil pressure system.
