Means for heating the working medium of hot air or gas power plants, in which a gaseous working medium, preferably air, describes a closed cycle under pressure above atmospheric
510,860. Hot air power plant. AKT.-GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. March 9, 1939, No. 7633. Convention date, March 30, 1938. [Class 7 (i)] In a hot air or gas power plant in which air or other gaseous medium traverses a closed cycle under a pressure above atmospheric and is heated indirectly by an external heat source whereafter it expands and gives up energy externally, its pressure being then raised again, a heater for the air &c. is connected to a gas producer and burns the gas produced therein, the quantity of gas generated in the producer being dependent upon the working of the plant. Air &c. under pressure, delivered by a compressor 6, and pre-heated in a heat exchanger 8 is fed directly through a pipe 3 to a turbine 4 the exhaust of which provides heat for the exchanger 8 before being again fed to the compressor 6 and heat is supplied to the pipe 2 by the comoustion in the chamber 1 of gas produced in a chamber 12. A valve 15 controls the supply of gas to a burner 16 in the chamber 1 and the air supply is adjusted by varying the speed of an exhaust fan 22 in a pipe 21 connected to the outlet pipe 18 of the combustion chamber 1 through an exchanger 19 which pre-heats the air pipe 13 leading to the burner 16. In a modification, the fan controls the air supply to the gas producer and in both forms, a blower may replace the exhaust fan.
