482,346. Swash - plate linkages. DUNCAN, V. G., BAILEY, T. H., and WATTS, R. E. Sept. 25, 1936, No. 26091. [Class 80 (iii)] Consists in means for lubricating engines, pumps, compressors and other machines wherein an inclined crank-pin is connected to the reciprocating pistons by linkwork, e.g. as described in Specification 450,972. A sleeve 4 rotatably mounted on an inclined crank-pin 2 of the shaft 1 has side members 5 carrying pins 6 61 connected to parallel pins 12, 121, connecting the pistons 10, 101 and 1011, 10111, by links 13, 131. The pins 6, 61, 12, 121 are parallel to the crank 2. Lubricating passages 21, 23, 26 are formed in the crank-shaft, web and inclined crank and lubricant is supplied to a chamber 45 from a pump in the lower part of the crank-case 8. The passage 26 terminates in a cross passage 28 adjacent which is an peripheral chamber 29 formed in the sleeve 4 and this chamber communicates through grooves 32 with similar chambers 30, 31 near the ends of the sleeve which in turn communicate through passages in the members 5, 33 to a passage 35, Fig. 5, in the pins 6. This passage has a cross passage 37, which leads to an annular recess 28 in the link 13 and to a similar recess 39 in the end of the link 13 which bears on the pin 12. The edges of the recesses 29, 30, 31, 38, 39 are preferably chamfered. The passage of lubricant to the recesses 38, 39 is assisted by centrifugal force. In a modification, Fig. 4, the arcuate chamber around the pin 2 is formed by a recess 51, in the sleeve 4, which chamber extends along the pin and is connected by passages 33 to the chambers on the pins 6, 61, 12, 121, as before. The sleeve 4 has bosses 52, 521 engaging cylindrical recesses in arms 56, 561 of a forked member 55 a cylindrical projection 57 of which is free to rotate in a cup 58 to which lubricant is supplied by a pump 66 from a sump 69. A passage 60 in the projection 57 communicates with passages 61, 62 &c. in the forked member 55 and thus lubricant is conducted to the recess 51 and thence to the other bearing members. The forked member forms a universal joint and does not interfere with the movement of the sleeve 4.
