[Class 35] A permanent magnet generator particularly for cycle lighting has a flux shunt consisting of at least one member passing axially through the armature coil and having its ends bent over and separated by an air gap. In the form shown, the armature winding 10 is carried by a core 11 between the extended ends of which a magnet rotates and a flux shunt 13 with a small air gap 14 is provided. The amount of flux shunted increases with speed, i.e. with frequency.
