500,823. Spinning yarn from slivers. LINEN THREAD CO., Inc. Nov. 4, 1937, No. 30222. Convention date, Jan. 21. [Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] Slivers of long fibre material such as bast fibres of jute, hemp, flax and the like are drawn from cans through twist apparatus 10 arranged at a point approximately at the upper end of the upwardly - directed course of the sliver and are spun directly into yarns. The twist apparatus 10 comprises hubs with axial bores and extending arms 11, Fig. 3, carrying sliver guides 12, whereby the twist imparted during the upward travel is removed, and the sliver is subjected to intermittent pulls which facilitate its removal from the cans. The hubs are carried in brackets 8a and are driven by gearing 16 from a shaft 17. The sliver may be drawn by gills or as shown by rollers 3, 4 with false twist apparatus 19. Specification 407,690 is referred to.
