[Class 7 (ii)] A suction-actuated auxiliary air valve 1 is suspended by a rod 7 from a bell-crank lever 8 pivoted at 9 and engaging with its other end, through a roller 10; a disc 11 supported eccentrically from a pivot 12 on an arm 13 which is rigid with a slotted arm 15 and is adapted to be turned about a pivot 14 by movement of the throttle valve 6 to which the arm 15 is connected by links 17, 18; opening of the throttle valve moves the pivot 12 upwards and away from the roller 10 to reduce the force with which the disc engages the lever 8 which is turned by the valve 1 until equilibrium is restored. The effective length of the arm 13 is the distance from the centre of the disc 14 to the pivot 12. The pivots 9, 12 are carried by a detachable housing 2a having a semicylindrical wall disposed between circular end walls one of which carries an air filter. A strap 20 secures the housing to a fixed housing 2 containing the air valve 1. Alternative pivot holes 29, 28 permit the housing 2a to be reversed on the fixed housing 2. In a modification, the arm 13 is'secured directly on the spindle of the throttle valve and the seat for the valve 1 is adjustable.
