518,492. Rollers for endless - belt conveyers. CROFTON & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., C., and MANN, R. W. Aug. 18, 1938, No. 24371. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] Ball bearing rollers for endlessbelt conveyers in which the bearings are carried by sheetmetal end plates pressed or spun into a sinuous crosssection comprising a flat portion and two cylindrical portions, the smaller of which houses the outer race of the ball bearing while the larger fits inside the tubular roller body, are constructed with the three portions merged into one another by curves of substantial radius to give a resilient construction. Fig. 2 shows a sheet metal plate 10 provided with one circular flange 12 turned over at 16 to prevent inward movement of the ball-race 18 and with a second flange 14 spotwelded to the roller body 20. A dirt-excluding and grease - retaining washer 32 is mounted between the grease-confining plate 34 and the outer plate 30 which is flanged at 28 to restrain the bearing 18 against outward movement and is held in place by a spring ring 24. The two flanges 12 at opposite ends of the roller may be extended to meet one another and form an oilfilled casing. Instead of welding the flange 14 to the roller body, the end may be turned over as at 38 to abut the end of the body. The spring ring 24 in this case holds all the parts in position. In a further modification the flange 12 is continued outwards to the line of the plate 30, the part 10 is in the position occupied by the plate 30 and the flange 14 is turned inwards instead of outwards. The members 30, 32 and 34 are arranged between the spindle and the flange 12.
