521,267. Manometers. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd., and HOOPER, M. S. Nov. 10, 1938, No. 32699. [Class 106 (ii)] The device is intended for detecting and comparing pressure vibration in a fluid and comprises a closed vessel 10 into which depends a tube 11 connected by tube 15 with the pressure to be investigated, a source of pressure-a mercury manometer with flexible tube 23- variable at will for balancing purposes and connected to the vessel 10 and a device for flooding the vessel 10 to the end of the tube 12 with soap or other film forming solution whereby a soap or other film may be formed across the end of the tube. The end 12 of the tube 11 is coned to form a sharp edge and the vessel is connected by a flexible pipe 16 through a cock 18 to a vessel 17 containing soap solution. A cock 13 enables the tube 11 to be connected to the pressure tube 15 or to a tube 14 connected to the atmosphere. In use the pipes 11, 14 are connected, the cock 18 opened and the vessel 17 raised so that soap solution enters the vessel 10 to the end 12 of the tube 11. The vessel 17 is then lowered and the cock 18 closed. The cock 13 is then gradually turned to open tube 11 to tube 15 and at the same time the tube 22 is raised or lowered to balance the pressure on the other side of the soap bubble. When the apparatus has been correctly adjusted, the pressure in tube 15 fluctuates about an average valve which may be read on the manometer 22, 23. In a modification, the top of the vessel 19 is connected by a pipe to the top of the left hand leg of the manometer 23 and the supply pipe 15 and a second air pipe 14 are connected through a second cock similar to 13 to the pipe leading from manometer 23 to the chamber 10. By this construction the bubble can be renewed under working pressure. A microscope having an eyepiece with a scale may be fitted for observing the bubble, or a magnified image may be projected on to a screen. Damping means may be fitted.
