摘要
554,501. Gauges ; sorting. RUAU, F. F., and MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. Dec. 3, 1941, No. 15574. [Class 106 (ii)] A gauging device comprises two pairs of jaws, one pair being adapted to engage a workpiece and the other a test piece, wherein one jaw of one pair is arranged to move bodily with one jaw of the other pair, wherein movement of a jaw of one pair is arranged to be limited by a stop on a jaw of the other pair, and wherein an article to be gauged is placed between a pair of gauging jaws and according to the thickness of the article the test-piece between the other pair of jaws is either gripped or remains free. As shown in Fig. 2, levers 1, 2 are hinged together by flat spring 5, and are urged apart by compression spring 6, the movement being limited by lugs 11, 14. The work piece W.P. is positioned between a pre-set screw 7 and a sliding pin 10, and the slip gauge G.P. between pin 10 and fixed pin 13 on bracket 12, and when spring 6 is released, if the work piece is of correct size, the gauge can be moved freely, but if the work piece is over size, the gauge is gripped. In Fig. 1 (not shown) and Fig. 3, the arrangement of parts is modified, so that the slip gauge is gripped only when the work piece is under size. The invention is applied to a sorting machine in Fig. 3, where the gauge is automatically applied with its jaws open to the workpieces in succession. If the slip gauge is gripped, a periodic rearward movement of the device pulls member 25 to release a trapdoor under the work piece, which is thereby rejected. The opening and closing of the jaws are controlled by cam 28.
