[Class 4] An aeroplane is fitted, inboard of the ailerons with landing flaps each comprising two parts 22, 23 which normally complete the contour of the wing. For landing they are turned into the position shown, but the parts 22 are movable independently of the parts 23 to control the lateral balance of the aeroplane at low speeds. The parts 22 also can be turned upwards across the airstream to act as air brakes.
