[Class 106 (ii)] Means for determining the accuracy of a machine for testing the lead of helical spur gear-wheels-for example, the machine described in Specification 550,063-comprises an accurately formed cylindrical body f adapted to be rotatably mounted in the machine and having on its surface a system of conveniently spaced fine lines h parallel with the axis of the body, a scale i or k for measuring movement of the slide e of the machine, and optical viewing means m and n adapted to be mounted on the slide. In one embodiment, two microscopes m and n are carried by the slide e and rotation of the cylinder f is observed through the microscope m while the corresponding movement of the slide is observed through the microscope n against a fixed scale k. In a second embodiment only one microscope m is used and additional graduations i are marked on the cylinder f.
