583,130. Multiple -- way valves. SANBRA, Ltd., and DINGLEY, P. N. June 9, 1944, No. 11123. [Class 135] A control valve device for geysers, water heaters and the like has two valve seat openings both communicating with the water supply mains and two valves for controlling these openings, the valves being operated by a single movable member such as a screwed spindle in such manner that during the operation of the movable member in one direction one valve 'seat opening is first opened and closed for the direct supply and shutting off of cold water, whilst continued movement of the movable member opens the other valve seat opening to give a maximum supply of water to the heater and then a supply at a gradually reduced rate. As shown, the device comprises a casing 1 with a partition 2 having valve seat openings 3, 4. The casing has a boss 8 connected to the supply mains and a boss 11 forming an outlet. Below the partition 2, the casing is divided into two chambers 9, 10 of which the latter has a passage 12 leading to the diaphragm chamber of the gas control valve and thence to the heater. The outlet from the heater and the outlet boss 11 are connected to a common discharge nozzle. The two valves 16, 17 are carried by a yoke 5 operated by the screwed spindle 7. Each valve carries a washer 15 to engage a seat below the partition 1. The valve 16' for supplying cold water directly has a reduced portion 16b and a collar 16a which obturates the opening 4 before a similar collar 17a on the valve 17 supplying the heater clears the opening 3. Subsequent movement of the valve 17 in the same direction brings a tapered portion 17b into the opening 3 which is thereby gradually closed.
