[Class 75 (i)] [Also in Groups XXVI, XXVII and XXIX] Apparatus for supplying fuel to the burners of combustion apparatus, the products from which operate a prime mover, comprises means, e.g. a pump; driven by the prime mover for supplying fuel at a rate dependent upon the speed of the prime mover, a conduit between said means and said burners having a byepass, the flow through which is controlled by a valve normally urged towards its closed position, and means responsive to the rate of flow for opening said valve and thus preventing the speed of the prime mover exceeding a predetermined value. As applied to a gasturbine plant for a jet aircraft of the kind described in Specifications 590,799, [Group XXVI], and 592,505, [Group XII], the apparatus, which is housed in a tunnel 41 in the upper part of the turbine casing, comprises a constant displacement pump 15 driven directly by the turbine 19 and discharging through a Venturi tube to a throttle valve 48 having an outlet 49 to the manifold 29 of the burners 27, an outlet 53 connected to the fuel inlet 43 to the pump, and a byepass port 63. A valve member 54 controlled through pulley gear operated by a handle 58 under the control of the pilot regulates the flow through the outlets. The port 63, which is always open to the Venturi tube, is connected to a control valve 65 having a member 69 urged to its closing position by a spring 73 acting upon the piston 72 of a servomotor, the opposite ends of which are connected to the inlet and the throat of the Venturi tube so that the pressure differential, which is a measure of the flow through the tube and of the speed of the turbine, controls the opening of the valve. The spring is selected so that the valve opens when the speed of the turbine exceeds a predetermined value. The speed may be indicated on a pressure gauge 78 calibrated in r.p.m. In a modification, the control valve piston is replaced by a disc to the opposite sides of which are secured bellows connected to the Venturi tube.
