613,223. Making razor blades. FAIREST, Ltd., M., and DICKINSON, E. V. June 11, 1946, No. 17347. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] A feeding-device for use in a machine for breaking hardened strip 84 into razor blades 103, &c., comprises a block 24, reciprocated with simple harmonic motion parallel to the line of feed, carrying a pin 50 slidably oscillated transversely, to engage holes in the strip during feed strokes and to disengage therefrom during return strokes. A driven shaft 63 carries a disc 62 at its end, having a connecting- rod 59 reciprocating the block 24 on guides 29. The block 24 is channelled at one end to receive a, pivoted bell crank 33 carrying the hardened steel feed pin 50 which is reciprocated when a roller 40 at the other end of the crank 33 is moved by a lever 42 with an end roller 47 engaging the profile of the disc 62. Breaking.-With the strip stationary a spring jaw nips it against an anvil and crankoperated jaws flex and break it at previously made indentations. The stroke position is set by adjusting the length of the connecting- rod 59 and by skewing the shaft 63. The strip is tensioned and restrained by a spring-pressed ball 81 and the severed blanks 103 are transferred to a pin 104.
