624,062. Insulation; condensers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 6, 1947, No. 15045. Convention date, June 7, 1946. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 36 and 37] Electric insulating material, particularly for use as a dielectric in condensers, comprises particles of ferric phosphate which have been consolidated by heat and pressure to a coherent state. The material is preferably prepared by comminuting the phosphate to a particle size corresponding to a screen opening of about 80 to 300 mesh, confining a mass of these particles in a mould, heating to a temperature of about 130‹ to 200‹ C. and subjecting the particles to a pressure of about 10,000 lb. per sq. in. for about 2 to 30 minutes, the duration of the pressure application varying inversely with the temperature. The mass may subsequently be baked for about “ to 6 hours at about 400‹ C. A binder comprising an organic material such as cellulose acetate, vinyl acetate, styrene, octachlor diphenyl benzene or monoisylamyl phosphate may be incorporated. Alternatively, an inorganic binder such as sodium silicate, sodium borate or ferric oxide may be used. The material may be used for external insulators or as internal spacing members for condensers.
