[Class 55(i)] An improvement in the parent Specification which comprises treating the solid residue from the distillation zone with steam and air or oxygen in a fluidized gasification zone to produce a gaseous fuel and withdrawing hot solid residue from the gasification zone and passing it in heat exchange relationship with a gas comprising oxygen and/or steam, this gas being thereafter supplied to the distillation zone or to the distillation and gasification zones.
