[Class 4] [Also in Groups XX and XXXVIII] In an aircraft dive-angle indicator the angle of attack and the fore-and-aft attitude are algebraically added in a Selsyn differential or a gyro. In the former arrangement a vertical gyro 2 controls the single-phase, energized rotor of a Selsyn transmitter 3 to feed an " attitude " signal to a " differential " Selsyn 7 having its rotor controlled by an angle-of-attack vane 9. The resultant signal is fed to a Selsyn indicator 12 which is positioned by a normal servo-driven follow-up system, Fig. 1, to indicate the dive angle. Alternatively, the angle of attack as obtained from a wind-vane 24 is transmitted by a normal Selsyn-servo remote-control, follow-up system to the zero adjuster 23 of a gyro horizon 21, whereby the position of the horizon 22 indicates the dive angle.
