[Class 38 (iv)] [Also in Groups X and XXXVI] An underfloor wire distribution system comprises a plurality of elongated metallic ducts 10, each comprising a corrugated upper sheet 30 with marginal flanges 32 and a flat lower sheet 34, the longitudinal edges of which are folded over and secured to said flanges to form a duct unit having at least two spaced cells of substantially rectangular cross-section, the upper walls of the duct unit being provided with a plurality of uniformly-spaced openings 20 for the reception of outlet fittings 22, the openings being formed in raised portions of the walls to permit connection of the fittings without causing obstruction within the cells. Each duct 10 comprises a plurality of individual units having complementary ends for end-to-end connection. An outlet 22 (Fig. 2) is secured in a raised opening 84 in the upper wall of the cell. Each opening is surrounded by a cylindrical rim 86, the lower portion of which is welded to the upper wall of the cell. A protective cover 88 may be provided for this opening which is subsequently concealed by concrete 24 and floor 26. To make use of the opening the member 88 and the concrete above it are removed. Markers 20 may be provided in the floor 26 for location purposes. A floor tap 92 having a threaded nipple 94 may be inserted in the opening 84 and the outlet 22 is then screwed to the upper end of the tap.
