[Classes 120 (ii) and 120 (iii)] In a centrifugal spinning or like machine in which, immediately the yarn is wound in the revolving holder it is wound automatically on to a bobbin or the like inserted into the holder from below, a supplementary length of yarn is wound above the normal yarn mass in the holder and is taken up by the bobbin when rewinding takes place so that it can be payed out by the bobbin during doffing without imposing tension on the yarn. As shown, the yarn is traversed in the rotating holder 8 by a tube 27, the yarn Y being led from the roller 4 through a guide eye on a stationary tube in the neck 7 of the holder and surrounding the traversing tube 27 which has a slot 29 to clear the bracket 21 supporting the stationary tube and to allow the yarn to engage the guide eye on the stationary tube. When the yarn mass Y2 has been laid in the holder, the traverse rail 24 to which the tube 27 is detachably connected, is elevated until the eye 28 is brought to a point above the normal traverse so that a few turns of yarn Y3 are laid above the mass Y2. The bobbins 20 which are carried from pillars 13 are then raised, the delivery rollers 4 are stopped and as each bobbin reaches its uppermost position, the length of yarn from the eye 28 to the turns Y3 are intercepted by a notched or serrated collar 38 at the top of the bobbin and the turns Y3 are wrapped around the periphery of the collar by the rotation of the holder before the mass Y2 is transferred to the bobbin. The bobbins are then lowered and during the descent the turns Y3 of yarn are drawn off the collar 38 and prevents any tension being imparted to the yarn, the rotation of the yarn holders being then stopped and a shaft 12 mounted in the pillars 13 and carrying the support 11 for the bobbins being rocked and the pillars 13 being raised to bring the lengths of yarn Y3 into the path of pegs 36 or inwardly directed flanges 35.on the holders which are then again rotated to cause the yarn Y3 to be bound around the pegs and severed from the yarn on the bobbins; the bobbins are then lowered to their lowest position and doffed.
