A device for discharging powder from a receptacle, comprises a discharge funnel a forming or adapted to support an open end of the receptacle, a rotatably oscillatable spindle or rod f extending across and rotatably supported by the funnel, a vibratory finger or fingers g carried by and extending laterally from a part of the spindle or rod within the funnel, and an electromagnet n having a spring-loaded oscillatory armature connected to the spindle or rod so that oscillatory motion of the armature causes vibratory motion of the finger or fingers for agitating the material to be discharged by gravity through the funnel. Figs. 1 and 2. Receptacle A containing material is inverted over funnel a freely supported by plate d, and the material is discharged therefrom by the vibration of finger g secured to spindle f, the spindle f being oscillated about its axis by electromagnet n through armature m, rod i, and detachable coupling h. The vibration of armature m is controlled by springs o which are mounted on stem p passing through a hole in the armature, the springs abutting against nut r threaded on said stem p and against stem bearing g.
