665,128. Elastic fluid turbines; power plant. CROCCHI, P. Feb. 2, 1949, No. 2842/49. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Aug. 20, 1949.] Classes 110(iii) and 122(iii). [Also in Groups XIII and XXXV] An electrical generating plant comprises a vapour producing boiler 8, a turbine 11, a surface condenser 20, an electrical generator and an airtight casing within which the vapour circulates, the boiler, turbine casing and condenser rotating together with the air-tight casing on a common axis in one direction, while the turbine 11 and one of the elements of the electrical generator, either the inductor or armature, are mounted on a coaxially arranged shaft rotatable in the opposite direction within the rotatable air-tight casing. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, both elements of the electrical generator are within the air-tight casing, the inductor 16 being mounted on the turbine shaft 15 and the armature 19 rotating in the opposite direction with the air-tight casing, the current produced being led through wiring to the contact 32. The fluid in the boiler is heated by the furnace 4, the exhaust gases discharging through the pipe 6, and passes through the nozzles 10 to the turbine 11 and then discharges into the condenser 20 which is cooled by air flowing through the channel 24. The condensate is returned to the boiler through the pipe 31 by centrifugal force. In a second embodiment, the armature is mounted externally of the airtight casing and rotates therewith, and the surface condenser is water-cooled. In a further embodiment the armature is again mounted externally of the air-tight casing but does not rotate. The air-tight casing may be rotated by the motor 7 which receives current either from an external source or from the generator 16, 19, or by reaction only. The working fluid may be mercury or a heavy hydro-carbon possessing lubricating properties. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also the arrangement shown in Fig. 4 (Cancelled) in which the armature 42 is mounted on the turbine shaft 15 and the inductor 46 is mounted on a bell-shaped extension 45 of the shaft 44 which is driven thereby. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
