685,245. Supplying liquid fuel to burners. DANIEL & CO., Ltd., D. A. Aug. 31, 1951 [Oct. 12, 1950], No. 24888/50. Class 75(i) In a system for varying the supply of liquid fuel to an air heater a plurality of fuel supply conduits 1, 2 are provided, each having a spring-controlled supply valve 3 or 4, and leading to a separate outlet control 14 or 16 which enables selection of the supply conduit to be made, the supply valves 3, 4 being controlled by springs 22, Fig. 5, of different strength so that the conduits 1, 2 each supply a different amount of fuel in any given time. As shown, each supply conduit 1, 2 is fed from a common inlet 7 and filter 6, and beyond the respective supply valves 3, 4 the conduits branch into outlet conduits 8, 9 and 12, 13 respectively, each with an outlet control 14, 15 and 16, 17. The outlet controls, 14, 16 and 15, 17 feed into common outlet lines 10, 11 respectively, each leading to a separate heater so that each heater may be fed via either supply conduit 1 or 2 by operation of the outlet controls. The supply valves 3 and 4 are of the same construction, apart from spring strength, and are shown in Fig. 5. Each valve comprises a casing 18 partitioned by a diaphragm 21 into two compartments 19, 20, the lower one 20 of which receives the liquid fuel via an inlet 24 and valve passage 26 and discharges it through a passage 27 and an outlet 25. The upper chamber 19 houses the spring 22 which bears on the diaphragm 21 to urge a valve 28, in the lower chamber passage 26, away from its seating 30 and allow flow of fuel through the valve. The pressure of the fuel in the chamber 20 acts on the diaphragm 21 against the spring 22 to tend to raise the diaphragm and allow valve 28, under the action of a follower spring 31, to move towards its closed position. The extent of the closure of valve 28 depends on the strength of the spring 22. The outlet controls 14-17 may comprise solenoidoperated valves and may be housed, together with valves 3, 4 and filter 6, in a common casing provided with a drain cock. The Provisional Specification states thatt the solenoid-operated outlet controls may be thermostatically or manually controlled. Sepcification 616,006, [Group XIII], is referred to.
