689,512. Engine frames; cooling cylinders. LIST, H. Nov. 15, 1950, No. 27956/50: Class 7 (ii). In a two-stroke diesel or other Vee-engine with wet liners 1 seating in the engine frame 2, additional cooling water space 7; 7' are formed in the outer sides of the frame 2. The outer walls 1SP1/SP of the spaces 7 act as frame bracing members, and the bottom walls of the spaces are finished flush with the upper half of the split crankcase joint 16 in a single machining . operation. The spaces 7, 7SP1/SP are in communication about exhaust ducts 8, and upper and, lower wet liner spaces 3, 4 are in communication about admission ducts (not shown) via bores 10. Apertures 9, 11 connect the spaces 7, 3 and 7SP1/SP, 4 respectively. Water entering from supply pipes 6 circulates through the various cooling spaces before passing via passages 12 to cylinder head cooling spaces 13 and out through pipes 14. In multicylinder engines, the spaces 7 of each bank intercommunicate as do the spaces 7'. A lubricant cooler may be connected to the spaces 7 in the manner of the pipes 6.
