694,642. Gas turbine plant. LUCAS, Ltd., J. May 7, 1951 [May 16, 1950] No. 12169/50. Class 110(iii) [Also in Group XXIX] The output of a pump supplying liquid fuel to the combustion chamber of a jet propulsion engine or a gas turbine is regulated by a fuel-actuated servo-mechanism the control means of which includes a chamber divided into two compartments g, h by a flexible diaphragm i (or a piston) one of the compartments g having an inlet for the reception of liquid at a pressure related to the speed of the pump, this compartment also being connected by a passage having a control or throttle valve 2 with the pump outlet f. The arrangement is particularly adapted for use in connection with engines in which provision is made for injecting water into the combustion chamber. In this case, the valve 2 which may be operated manually or otherwise is fully open when no water is being injected and is closed when water is being injected to obtain an increased delivery from the pump. As shown, the burners x are supplied by a variable delivery swashplate pump b as described in Specification 577,016, [Group XXIX]. The obliquity of the swash-plate d is controlled by a spring-loaded servo-piston q itself controlled by a vent valve n actuated by the diaphragm i through a spring-loaded lever k. The diaphragm is loaded by a tension spring j and fuel from the radial passages u of the pump rotor a has access to the compartment g through a restricted orifice v.
