Class 61 In a wrench or like hand operable gripping tool having crossed handles with jaws and an adjustable position pivot, a portion of one of the handles is slotted to receive the upper part of the other handle, a series of grooves or indentations being provided on the rear edge of a rearwardly inclined part of the one handle and a pivot pin on the other handle. As shown, the handle component b which has a rearwardly inclined slotted portion a2 and is provided with a forwardly extending jaw aSP3/SP, comprises two plates attached together by spacing pieces b, c secured as by welding or riveting. The rear edges of the plates are provided with a series of aligned pairs of grooves h for selective engagement by a transverse pivot pin or screw fitted to the handle eSP1/SP. A spring may be provided between the handles to maintain the pivot pin in engagement with the grooves. In a modification the handle eSP1/SP comprises two plates attached together by spacing pieces and contains the slot to receive the inclined part aSP2/SP of the handle aSP1/SP, the pivot pin being carried across the slot. The serrated jaw faces d and g may be straight or curved.
