725,081. Tethering animals. LIVINGSTONE D. E., and LAKE, E. H. July 9, 1953, No. 19015/53. Class 62. [Also in Group XXV] Cattle are tethered by a chain a link of which is passed over a bar removably located between wall-mounted brackets and comprising two relatively displaceable members. As shown in Fig. 2, members 16, 17 which are urged apart by an interposed spring 20 are located in a tube 15, the lower member 17 being secured to the tube by bolting or welding and having a condensation drainage hole 23. Both members have tapered outer ends 19, 22. The bar is sprung into position in the manner shown in Fig. 4 so that the members engage holes 24, 25 in wallmounted brackets 10, 11. To release the bar sideways pressure is applied, and at the same time the member 16 is forced down against the spring, for example by a hammer blow. An elastic or rubber buffer may be substituted for the spring, or alternatively a spring- loaded hydraulic piston may be used. In an alternative arrangement the spring is dispensed with and a shear pin, which is broken off when vertical pressure is applied, prevents relative movement between the member 16 and the tube.
