An apparatus for use in determining the magnitude, direction and line of action of the force exerted by a fluid jet on a blade K comprises a lever F pivoted at one end on a fixed shaft B and having its free end resting on a second fixed shaft A, a depending arm J secured to the lever between its ends and means R, S, Q to measure the deflection of the shafts in one or more planes. In a modification the jet nozzle O may be mounted on the arm J and act on a fixed blade. The means R, S and Q may be dial gauges. As shown in plan view, Fig. 2, the shafts A and B are secured in collets C in pillars on a base E, the collets C being adjustable in the pillars to alter the effective length of the shafts.
