A grave surround 1 and memorial cross 4 are cast in no-fines concrete which is then covered with terrazzo comprising quartz, marble, &c. chippings, the terrazo being ground, polished and coated with a resinous composition to protect it from the weather. The surround and cross may include lettering, &c. of metal or synthetic resin, the letters being secured to hardwood strips embedded in the concrete, the terrazo covering being ground flush with the surface of the letters. To lessen moisture creep in the articles, 3 per cent by weight of sodium silicate and 10 per cent by weight of a mixture of vinyl acetate and a plasticizer is included in the concrete and terrazo mixes. The resinous coating consists of 2 parts by weight of " Araldite " (Registered Trade Mark), 3 parts by weight of diacetone alcohol, 1 part by weight of toluene and 1 part by weight of ethyl acetate.
