Tell-tale device for a door of a device for use in timing an event

A time recorder of the type wherein at least one clock-driven disc chart 14 is punctured sequentially at a different distance from its centre by a needle each time an external manual control is operated for transferring to a magazine each one of a series of tokens separately inserted at different stages of an event and to establish a driving connection between the control and the needleoperating mechanism, is housed in a casing 12 with a door 19 held closed by a slidable member 23 when the latter is in one extreme position and is released when the member is in an opposite extreme position. The member 23 extends within the casing and is connected to operate, when passing from one extreme position to the other, a second needle 38 for puncturing the chart 14 in a position removed from the zone of the chart on which the time-recording needle operates. As shown a pigeon race time recorder is mounted on a chassis with a front wall 13 in the casing 12 in whose lip is formed a pair of holes for receiving co-operating pins 17 on a bracket secured inside a detachable door 19 which has a ledge 20 fitting within the casing lip. On the inner side of the wall 13, brackets 21, 22 guide the slidable member 23 having an end 24 extending through a recess 25 in the lip of the casing 12. A part 27 is secured to the slide 33 to fill the recess when slid inward and it has a lug 28 with a hole 29 to register with a hole 30 in a lug 31 fast with the casing through which holes a piece of wire may be threaded to hold the lugs together. The door carries a stub 32 with enlarged head 33 which passes freely through a hole in the wall 13 and coacts with a keyhole slot in the slide 23 for locking the door when the slide 23 is slid inwardly. The slide 23 has a frame 44 with two cam surfaces 42, 43 co-operating with the head 41 of a spring- biased needle 38 moving in a guide 39 secured to the wall 13. The head 41 may be bifurcated and the slot made cam-like to co-operate with the surfaces 42, 43 when the slide 23 is moved from one extreme position to the other thereby causing the needle 38 to puncture discs 14, 15 in a zone remote from the time-recording needle.
