Process for eliminating the electrostatic charging of polyethylene terephthalate fibres

Polyethylene terephthalate textile materials are treated with an aqueous solution of a triethanolamine salt of benzoic or a hydroxybenzoic acid, e.g. salicylic acid, or a neutral or acid triethanolamine salt of phthalic or isophthalic acid, either alone or in conjunction with polyvinyl alcohol. The composition, which may also include a lubricating oil, may be applied at a pH of 4.2 and at temperature of 60 DEG C. to 80 DEG C. to staple fibres or fabrics.
