763,027. Regulating. DAIMLER-BENZ AKT.-GES. July 15, 1954 [July 25, 1953], No. 20700/54. Class 7 (6). [Also in Group XXVI] The regulating rod 1, Fig. 1, of a fuel injection pump is operated through a linkage 3, 8, extending substantially in a straight line and comprising a joint 21 movable about a fixed axis 4 located outside said line, by a device 11 responsive to engine output, such as a diaphragm responsive to intake pipe suction, and the fuel supply is corrected for variations in atmospheric pressure and/or temperature by movement of a further joint 7 in the linkage transversely of the direction of movement of the links 3, 8, the joint 7 being guided approximately on an arc of a circle about the axis 4 when the device 11 moves while the connecting means stays at rest. In Fig. 1 the link 3 is attached to a member 5 pivoted at 4 and provided with a slot 6 in which slides a pin 7 attached to the link 8, the pin 7 being carried by a lever 13 attached at one end by links 14, 15, 16 to a device responsive to atmospheric temperature and at the other end by links 17, 18 to a capsule 19 responsive to atmospheric pressure. In the full load position of the rod 1, the slot is in the position 6, Fig. 2, and increase of temperature causes movement of the rod 14 upwards which raises the pin 7 and, due to the inclination of the slot 6, causes movement of the rod 1 to the left to reduce the fuel supply. Similarly a decrease in atmospheric pressure causes expansion of capsule 19 and raising of the pin 7 to decrease the fuel supply. As the engine load decreases the device 11 moves the links 8, 3, to the right to decrease the fuel supply, the slot 6 moving to a less inclined position 6' so that movements of the pin 7 produce smaller corrective movements of the rod 1. In the zero supply position of the link 3, 8, the slot 6 is vertical as shown at 6" and the corrective devices have no effect. In a modification, Fig. 4, the capsule 19 is inserted in the link 20 connecting the thermometric device to the pin 7 so that the corrective devices act in series. In a further modification the pin 7 is carried by link 3 and the slot 6 is omitted, the pin 7 being connected by a link to the lever 5 which is also pivoted to the link 8.
