A sliding clasp fastener of the separable end type comprises a pair of fastener stringers 10, 11 having rows of co-operating fastener elements 12 along adjacent longitudinal edges, a slider 15 movable over the rows of elements for opening and closing the fastener, a separable end connection comprising pins 16, 17 embracing the edge of the stringers adjacent the bottom ends of the rows of fastener elements, and a U-shaped retainer member 18 permanently fixed to one of the stringers, the retainer having a socket 23 for removably receiving the other of the pins on the opposite stringer, one side of the retainer having a hook-like projection 24 extending toward the fastener elements and the lower end of the slide having a notch 27 with a shape corresponding to the hook-like projection 24, the projection and notch being interengaged when the slider is moved against the retainer to hold the slider in position for re-assembly of the removable stringer 11 while the latter is disengaged from the retainer 18. After reassembly of the stringer 11, the slider is disengaged from the retainer by the normal movement of the slider to close the fastener.
