A double-acting luffing davit comprises an arm 1 pivotally connected at its lower end to a davit frame 2 and at its upper end to an extendible member 6 which is capable of being secured to the davit frame in either of two positions, one on each side of the davit arm, thus supporting the arm. The member 6 includes a telescopic screw device so that its length can be extended or shortened by a crank detachably mounted on a keyed extension 10 carried by one of a pair of bevel wheels 11. The lower end 7 of member 6 is bifurcated for coupling through a pin and plunger element 12 to the davit frame. The element 12 may be secured in either end 14 of an arcuate slot 13 in the frame.
