Class 44 [Also in Group XV] A control string of a puppet is secured to a rod for controlling the puppet or to the puppet itself by means of an eye formed with a gap normally closed by a resilient member which may be pressed-to open the gap and thus release the string from the eye. Fig. 1 shows a screw-eye 10 having a gap 12 and screwed into a control member 15a, a cupped rubber washer 14 being provided between the member 15A and the ring of the eye. The string 13 is engaged in the eye by passing its looped end over the eye in the direction of the arrow A and when the string engages between the eye and the rubber washer, the loop is pulled in the direction of arrow B to cause the string to enter the eye through the gap 12 after which, the eye is closed again by the rubber washer. The string is released by arranging it as shown in Fig. 4 and pulling in the direction C. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the cupped washer_is of metal but a disc-like rubber washer is located between the metal washer and the control member. A further form of eye has its gap normally closed' by a leaf spring or a spring-influenced hinged portion, the washer(s) then being dispensed with.
