Class 123(1) Corrosion of nickel-molybdenum alloys by concentrated liquid phosphoric acid used as a catalyst in reactions, such as the polymerization of gaseous olefins, wherein the acid is used at concentrations of 70 per cent and above and at temperatures at or exceeding 290‹F. is inhibited by adding cupric ions to the acid in a proportion of from 2 to 25 parts per million of acid. The cupric ions are added in the form of cupric salts, for example, basic cupric carbonates or cupric phosphate.
